This project came from curiosity of the history of start-ups in the Kitchener area. There are many start ups centered in the industrial core of Kitchener that exist, not as blip on the historical record but rather as part of a longer legacy of entrepreneurial spirit dating back to before the name of the city was changed to Kitchener in 1912 to 1870 when “Busy Berlin” was just gaining town status in Waterloo County. This website looks to synthesize information from various sources with a focus on industry in order to prove that small businesses, with their ups and downs, define this region’s identity as a center of innovation.
